Richard Quataert
overview
Educated at Rochester Institute of Technology, Richard Quataert began his photographic career at Eastman Kodak. While there, he established himself in both stills and motion picture/video. An ongoing assignment took him to over 35 countries, shooting stills and movies for Kodak’s “Multivision” shows. As an award-winning still photographer, his work was included in New York’s Metropolitan Museum “Photography in the Fine Arts” show, and remains in their permanent collection.
Richard’s focus is now on his fine art photography. Working primarily in infrared black and white, his subjects span a broad spectrum — from the human form to natural forms, from landscape to abstraction. Always seeking to enhance the impact of the image, Richard has explored in-darkroom double printing, hand coloring and over-painting Polaroid transfers with watercolors.

A longtime member of the ARTISANworks family, Richard is not only a resident artist, he is senior curator, responsible for designing shows and exhibits. His studio is in the Marilyn Monroe room, where a wide range of his work is displayed, notably his signature double-printed portfolios. Each a unique marriage of images, portions of the portfolios have been published in Camera Arts and Silvershotz magazines. Richard does all his own film processing and printing in the darkroom onsite at ARTISANworks.
