about the artist

Solely a watercolorist, Chris Wagner uses an extreme depth of color and contrast not often seen in the medium. Neither complete realism nor impressionism, he explores a go-between both, giving an atmospheric feeling to his works. He has lived from the mountains to the coast of North Carolina, and enjoys painting locations and people from all paths he has crossed. North Carolina is a state rich in subject matter, and should keep him painting for years to come. He also paints entirely abstract pieces; it is an enjoyable respite from the constraints of representational work. Whether abstract or from life, he strives to push the boundaries of watercolor to unexpected results.

He has participated in both group and solo shows in North Carolina galleries. Currently he lives in eastern North Carolina where he enjoys coastal living with his wife and two stepsons.

Chris is a graduate of the Corcoran College of Art & Design (’92) in Washington, D.C., with a Bachelor in Fine Arts.
