Esther Wertheimer
about the artist
Born in Poland, Esther Wertheimer has lived most of her life in Montreal. But, her quest for artistic excellence has inspired her to study and work in many corners of the world.
Like her sculpture, she is constantly in motion maintaining studios in Montreal and Florida as well as returning to Italy for several months each year to work in the artists’ colony of Pietrasanta. She also travels extensively to many other cities where her works are exhibited.
She has dozens of sculptures on exhibit worldwide. Fourteen monumental sculptures are displayed in Japan, at City Halls, Performing Arts Centers, Museums and Parks. From over 100 applicants, she won a commission to develop a nine-foot scultpture for the Washington DC East Gate Condominium. The sculpture of four figures, titled Celebration, was to be installed in late 2007. This prestigious competition was sponsored by the Commission of the Arts and Humanities.
