Paints, brushes and canvas were my toys to help my spirit to grow and dance. These toys became my tools to help express myself.

My inspiration derives from my palette choices, also to produce a thought-provoking piece which makes a connection with the viewer. Also, nature is a huge element that inspires and challenges me at the same time. When you view my work you will sense water, trees, earth and sky.

Applying color and texture using fabric, mediums, oil pastels and inks have become essential to convey my message. I hope my work makes the viewer stop and look and make their own conclusions.

This, I believe, is the fun and fascination of art.

about the artist

I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia. At an early age I had a connection with nature. The beautiful hills of West Virginia made an everlasting impression on me. It was not till I was in my twenties, did I try to teach myself to paint. I started to search and try to copy images and figure out how to get my colors just right. My palette was very limited in the beginning, which had a primary and raw feel. It took years to find my palette and a sense that I was doing it my way.

I always worked in an art capacity. I worked as a Picture Framer, Visual Merchandiser and Graphic Designer and Illustrator. I received my Associates Degree in Applied Science in Graphic Design and Advertising. During my college years I never had any painting classes, but continued to paint in my spare time. I worked in Graphic Design for publication work and enjoyed the creative aspect of that field. I worked for JCPenney throughout the southeast as a Visual Merchandising Manager. In this position I learned to work at a fast pace and to be in an ever changing state of mind. I loved the variety of the job and the demand for creative ideas. When I worked as a picture framer, it was great fun choosing the right color of matting and frame for the client’s artwork. It was rewarding to have repeat customers who depended on my eye to frame their pieces.

Over the years I worked in all three trades that I knew, and painted into the late hours of the night and weekends. In 2010 I made the commitment to be a full time Artist. By this time I had been selected in several Juried Shows, Solo Exhibits and was juried into the Artist Guild Gallery of Greenville, South Carolina. I have been a member now for 4 years. I also show work in established restaurants downtown Greer and downtown Greenville, S.C. I was one of the ten artists selected and juried into a non- profit organization called LOMA, (Love Art Make Art) for 2012 in Greenville, S.C. LOMA will hold six exhibitions for us in 2012.

My work has continued to grow and change over the years. My canvases have gotten larger as my subject matter demands the space. Texture has become an element that fascinates me. I am using more mixed media in my work and my palette is changing to a vast array of hues and saturations. Although many of my skills have changed and developed, I will always rely on nature to inspire me. Then the challenge begins.
