overview

“I have always loved art and actually took a short-lived oil painting class when I was fourteen, however it wasn’t until January of 2000 that I actually began painting again. In 1971 I swore “Never pick up an oil paint brush again!!”, but while vacationing in Las Vegas in May of 1999, early one morning I happened to come across a painting program on PBS. Something inside clicked and I realized that I wanted to paint again.

“For Father’s Day that same year, I received a little wooden art box full of paints and brushes and I was ready. After several attempts, I finally seriously put paint to canvas the following January. Since that time, I have painted nearly non-stop.

“I am self-taught, but have been greatly influenced by many artists: from Monet, Sargent, and Sorolla to Richard Schmid and Leonard Wren. My most recognized motif has been street scenes, from the quaint balconies of New Orleans to the diverse streets of San Francisco. I am always inspired by architecture and the light of a certain scene. As of late, I have also been doing more figure studies, some edgier and a little more urban.

“Whatever I am painting, you can be assured that it was done out of passion, as painting is what drives me.”
