overview

I quit commercial screen printing and my hobby, photography maybe 30 years ago. I was pretty good at both. Often, I would ask myself what it would take to get me interested in one or the other, again.

It’s spring, maybe 2003. I’m wandering through the annual art faire on the streets of Montclair, a burg of Oakland, California. I’ve lived in or near Montclair for ages, but had never gone to this art faire. I’m taking my time, on an 85-degree day, one tends to stroll. So I am seeing everything and soon this booth with beautiful pictures of Greece on canvas stops me in my tracks. Because it is obvious that these pictures were not painted, I ask the guy how he created them. He said it was his secret. With a little shrug I move down a couple booths and here is another artist with more of the same. The guy opens up, saying he takes digital pictures and prints them with an Epson 4000.

Wow, that was easy. I bought a Nikon D100 and the printer and got to work learning to become a photographer again. That was not as easy. But a few years later, I produced the “Rust” portfolio. Lately, Black & White has me hooked.

I try to keep up on the current trends in photography, gaining inspiration from those who photograph like I hope to some day. Mitch Dobrower is the photographer who has me hooked on B&W. He’s whom I look to for direction.

I also get great patronage from Tim Medina at .
