“I have always felt attracted by the forms and shapes of nature; it can be an animal, a plant, a stone or a human face, I can be delighted even by a tiny insect. When I look back to the past, it is the images of nature the ones that bring smiles to my face; a landscape, a cloudy or a clear sky, a dawn or a sunset. We interact with nature all the time, even though we don’t notice nature is always there, for us, keeping us alive.

“Nature inspires me, it keeps giving me ideas of what I could paint or draw, I always try that my artwork let people feel what I do about the perfection of our environment. I admire the complexity of nature, so I try to elaborate a tribute to it in every artwork. For that matter I usually mix reality with fantasy, it helps me to easily express an interaction and a strong bond in between nature and people. The fantasy side of my work is often inspired by dreams, memories, and popular culture matters like legends, myths, and religious themes as well.

“In my portrait artwork, which is my main subject on commissions, I try to render a lot of details, since I go after a description of the portrayed person essence; just like a writer uses words to create lines that make a history, I make this description with every pencil stroke or brushstroke that creates particular features that define a person’s identity. When I render a portrait, besides the artistic meaning, I involve a sentimental meaning by capturing the essence of forms in order to simulate a perceptible presence of the subject, so it can be particularly appreciated by the portrait owner.”

about the artist

I was born in 1983 in Mexico City, where I spent my childhood years. At 13, along with my parents, we moved to Oaxaca, the place where I started to develop a passion for drawing, inspired mainly by the natural surrounding peace, the fraternal love from people close to me and that magic that was in the air I breathed. I found an innate and personal way to connect my feelings to pencils and colors. Nevertheless, that harmony would rest intimate for several years.

At 20. I moved to another city to start my professional education majoring as a Chemical Engineer, I graduated at 25 years old. Yet, I never got to make a real connection with science and once I got my professional degree I started my voyage into the world I always wanted to be part of, the art world.

At 26, I started to be commissioned to paint and draw portraits, simultaneously my technique was improving by an incessant practice. Always feeling inspired by the work of the masters, like W. A. Bouguereau, Ingres, Alma-Tadema and some contemporary artists, but above all, by the perfect creation that surrounds us, and with an ongoing observation and admiration for nature beauty, either it is ordered or chaotic.

portraits on commission

I am available to do portraits on commission. Contact for information.

Commissions can be created in watercolor pencils on paper, graphite-charcoal on paper and acrylic paint on board. Single portraits take roughly 4 to 9 weeks for completion depending on the complexity of the subject and the medium used. I work from reference photos provided by commissioner. The clearer the picture, the more lifelike the portrait will be, hence resolution of pictures must be as high as possible.

For payment, I ask half down at the start of the commission and the balance at its completion. The process starts by establishing what the client would like the artwork to depict. After discussing via e-mail all the details of the commission I will precisely set the price of the artwork. I start working on the commission and throughout the rendering process I can send pictures of the work in progress via e-mail if requested. Once the piece is finished I will send a picture of the completed work for approval. Finally, after acceptance by the client the balance due is paid and the artwork is packed safely for shipment.

All artwork is completely hand-drawn/hand-painted and only high quality materials are used. Standard portrait size is life size and it includes head, shoulders and chest portions. Examples are as follows:

Standard portrait examples
Single simple portrait - Size ~ 20 x 14 in (See “Claudia”)
Single portrait + background - Size ~ 20 x 14 in (See “Bailey”)
Single portrait + composition - Size ~ 26 x 18 in (See “Equilibrium” & “A man of peace”)
