about the artist

Alex Khomski was born in Moscow, Russia. He studied classic drawing and painting with the most famous art professors in Moscow and finally was accepted into the most prestigious and highly regarded Stroganoff Institute of Fine and Applied art, founded by the Count Stroganoff. This Institute along with Russian Academy of Arts are the oldest art institutes in Russia.

Teaching methods in the school were created according to academic standards which were common in Russian art education system and students spent hundreds and hundreds hours drawing and painting from models and Greek and Roman patterns in realistic style which actually gives the artist very good technical abilities for his future creative projects.

After graduating the Stroganoff Institute Khomski worked as an Interior Designer and Mural Artist for Art Shops of Russian Federation Art Fund and at the same time continued to master his painting technique.

He also developed interest in the cutting edge contemporary art and was accepted in highly recognizable Union of Graphic Artists.

This organization which was much more liberal then official Union of Artist supported vanguard art and underground artists, whose work was very difficult to promote during communist era in Russia.

Alex joined the Union of Graphic Artists in much more liberal times during Gorbachev and he had the opportunity to show his work in the west at the shows sponsored by the different art institutions and galleries from Moscow and Europe.

His first most prestigious show was held in Bonn Germany in Christian Democratic Party headquarters in 1988 which was titled “Bonn—Moscow, Russian Vanguard Art” and represented most important Russian vanguard artists such as Kabakov , Komar and Melamid and other blue chip vanguard artists from Russia.

The Exhibition was held during the first visit of Russian president Michael Gorbachev to Germany and was very highly regarded in German press. Two of the Alex’s works were sold to Swiss ambassador to Germany who later became Alex’s collector and acquired several pieces for his collection of vanguard Russian art.

From this point Khomski’s career as an international artist started. Then next year he was presented with His First Solo Show at the Gallery Doll in Kotzting, Germany, He also started to be represented by the International Gallery Reich in Köln.

Seeking the artistic freedom Alex moved to US in 1990. Since then he participated in numerous solo and group shows in US, Canada and Europe. His art was reviewed in many publications such as Los Angeles Times, Fine art magazine, and many others.

His paintings can be found in many important collections around the world such as those of the Tretyakov Gallery Moscow, Russia; Zimmerli Museum of Art in New Brunswick, New Jersey; Fidelity Investments Corporation in Boston, MA; Mr. Holl, former Swiss Ambassador to Germany, Igor Prokofiev, son of the famous Russian composer; Dr. Gautam Allahbadia prominent Indian collector among others.

In 2007 Alex’s work was included in the collection of Tretykov Gallery in Moscow, major
Russian Museum.
