overview

Carenie Little is a semi abstract acrylic painter with 33 years experience as a professional artist. She currently resides in Northern Ontario surrounded by landscape that inspired the Group of Seven. Her personal style involves the layering of translucent paint and sheer fabric which creates emotional depth through layers both real and imagined. An alternate style, which she calls “My Alter Ego,” employs humour to depict feminist plights rendered more challenging by the in-your-face fantasy element. Carenie also illustrates children’s books and conducts small group drawing and painting workshops in her Whitefish studio.

“There are NO RULES” (Jack Bush). I find myself loosening the rules that bind my freedom to painterly achievement. Pallet knives, sheer fabric and jewelry allow a more direct expression of my emotions onto the canvas. My work is colorful, bold, daring and passionate. The end product always amazes me.

Carenie had an early love for painting while growing up in Montreal. This was refined while attending Cambrian College for her Fine Arts degree while raising a family in Sudbury. In college Carenie discovered a passion for clay sculpture and established a, successful, wood fired pottery business. Her works sold at the Bowring store in Toronto and the Round Barn in Thessalon. A sculpture entitled Sir Arthur and company went on an Ontario College of Art travelling exhibition. After an injury Carenie returned to her first love, painting, in her own studio near Sudbury, Ontario.

Art was never an option for me; it’s who I am and what I do. JUST PAINT!!
