Michael Lynne’s father was a professional dancer, and that meant that Michael got all the white cardboard shirt inserts from the dry cleaners to draw on. Over time, this kindled an intense love of drawing and painting. Years later, Michael graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a major in illustration and a minor in painting. A three-year career in advertising ended when the company Michael worked for moved south. Counseled at RIT to consider a teaching degree, Michael did exactly that, and after completing his Master’s degree, he experienced a rewarding 30-plus year career in art education. Michael is now retired and devoting all his time to his painting studio. During the summers, Michael worked on his own art, and took summer classes from RIT, Rhode Island School of Design, Mass College of Art and the Cape Cod School of Art. An exhibiting artist, Michael especially enjoys entering competitive shows that are thematic in nature, as each show causes the artist to solve a new problem. Michael’s current focus has been in learning to understand color as an expressive tool and one that supports his goal of a looser, more fluid painting style. While current work has been largely landscape oriented, Michael also created portraits and still life paintings and has done occasional social-commentary work. |
