overview

A fascination with the extraordinary character to be found in every corner of the world is what has inspired pastel artist Lynn Morgan. Among her subject matter, landscapes and figures have emerged as the favorites, as she frequently blends the two with figures in the landscape. Although she spent the majority of her life in corporate America while raising her daughter, she always painted as a hobby. In recent years, she has been able to devote her time to her art, which is when she discovered her passion for pastels. Their immediacy and vibrancy never cease to delight her as she works. Lynn hopes that viewers of her work will be drawn immediately to the color and mood that she tries to convey in each painting.

about the artist

A fascination with the extraordinary character to be found in every corner of the world is what has inspired pastel artist Lynn Morgan. Although she spent the majority of her life in corporate America while raising her daughter, she always painted as a hobby. In recent years, she has been able to devote her time to her art, which is when she discovered her passion for pastels. Their immediacy and vibrancy never cease to delight her as she works. Born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Lynn’s family moved to Florida when she was a young teenager. Her mother had been an art student at the Parsons School of Design in New York, and Lynn inherited her mother’s love of creating art, but the demands of marriage and, ultimately, single motherhood kept her on the corporate track. Lynn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management. After 35 years in corporate America, Lynn retired and began pursuing her lifelong dream of being an artist. She has studied art at Palm Beach State College, the Armory Art Center, the Lighthouse ArtCenter and has taken workshops with several noted artists including Carl Schmalz, Robbie Laird, Barbara Nechis, Terri Ford and Margaret Dyer. She is currently studying with Miroslav Antic. Her artistic influences include Cezanne, Bonnard, the Bay Area Figurative Artists and contemporary artists Linda Christensen and Brian Rutenberg.

“In my life, I have learned to do a great many things, including play the piano and the guitar, play golf, fly a plane, ski, sail a boat and paint. Of all these wonderful activities, there is only one that I never tire of, and that is painting. I worked all my life to support myself and my daughter, and I knew that when I retired, I would devote myself to my painting, which is what I have done. I have tried acrylics and watercolors, but the medium that I have fallen in love with is pastels. There is nothing like holding the pastel stick in your hand and watching the vibrant color take hold on the paper. I even find pleasure in just looking at the gorgeous colors of my pastel sticks in their boxes. My goal is to convey and convert my inspiration into a visual response that completes the cycle for me, and hopefully, other viewers.”

Lynn is currently represented by the Liman Gallery in Palm Beach.
