overview

Roland Morin did not always paint in the unique, abstract expressionistic style for which he has become known as an emerging artist. Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1954, his artistic talent first became evident at the early age of nine. His interest in the arts carried him through art school. He later attended PICA (the Professional Institute of Commercial Art) in Baltimore and was featured in several art shows and art galleries. During his teenage and young adult years, he painted in dark, drab colors. Later, in a dramatic change of style which he attributes to his encounter with Jesus Christ, he began painting in the vibrant, colorful, modernistic style which is his trademark today.

about the artist

Using simplistic art expressions and techniques in combination with bright, vivacious colors, Roland is a highly productive artist whose favorite style is abstract expressionism. He explains the use of bright colors in his paintings as a means to counter a world that can seem dark and heading on the path to disaster. His hope is that the vibrancy in his artwork can bring great joy to the viewer. He paints in a simplistic style so as not to confuse the viewer. “Let’s face it, the world is not a simple place to live in anymore; therefore, why should we, as artists, make our artwork any more difficult for people to understand and accept? I find it a challenge to express myself without the use of many colors. It is fun for me to explain myself in this format.”

Morin enjoys the process of mixing oil colors and applying them to the canvas and describes it as an outlet to express how he sees subject matter. “I hope that you will enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it.” Painting bright and vibrant colors on canvas allows him to express a positive and uplifting way to view life. Simplistic in content and bold in color, Roland’s paintings capture the spirit of freedom from the complexities of everyday living.
